TapClass – Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how TapClass ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the TapClass mobile application and its related services (the "App"). TapClass is an attendance tracking app designed for educational use, where students check in to class by tapping their iPhone on a registered NFC tag.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

TapClass uses accounts that are created and managed by the teacher or school. Students do not create their own accounts inside the App.

For each student account, we may store:

• Username (e.g. a school- or teacher-assigned identifier)
• Hashed password (we never store plain-text passwords)

1.2 Attendance Data

When a student checks in using TapClass, we store attendance-related information such as:

• Student account identifier (username or internal user ID)
• Classroom/tag identifier (e.g. NFC tag ID like TAG_ROOM_281)
• Date and time of the check-in

1.3 Technical and Usage Data

To operate and secure the service, we may log limited technical information, such as:

• Basic device information (device model, iOS version)
• Approximate time of API requests
• Anonymized error or crash logs

We do not collect precise location data or any unnecessary personal data.

2. How We Use the Information

We use the collected information solely to:

• Authenticate students and allow them to log in to the App
• Record attendance when students check in with an NFC tag
• Display attendance information to authorized teachers/schools
• Maintain and improve the reliability and security of the App

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or selling to third parties.

3. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information with third parties.

We may share limited data only in the following situations:

• Service Providers: We may use hosting or infrastructure providers to run the backend and database. These providers process data on our behalf and are required to protect it.
• Legal Requirements: If required by law, regulation, or legal process, we may disclose data to comply with such obligations.

4. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect stored data, including:

• Using HTTPS to encrypt communication between the App and server
• Storing passwords only in hashed form
• Restricting access to attendance data to authorized teachers/schools

However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention

Attendance data and account information are retained for as long as needed for educational and administrative purposes, or as required by the school or teacher using TapClass.

If a school or teacher requests deletion of specific student data, we will make reasonable efforts to delete or anonymize that data, subject to technical and legal limitations.

6. Children’s Privacy

TapClass may be used in educational environments with students under the age of 13 or under the local age of digital consent. In such cases:

• Student accounts are created and managed by teachers or schools.
• Students do not sign up or provide personal information directly in the App.
• Any use of TapClass with children is under the responsibility and supervision of the educational institution, which must ensure compliance with applicable child privacy laws.

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your information. Since TapClass is typically used via a school or teacher, we recommend that students or parents first contact the relevant school or teacher regarding attendance records.
